HOW TO PREPARE NET EXAM


  • The NET exam was announced by CBSE.
  •  The last date for applying exam is15th May  .
  •   The exam will be held on 28th  June.

With the expansion of higher education in India, there is a great demand for well qualified and devoted teachers. As compared to others, higher education teachers enjoy a flexible and friendly learning condition which provides a genuine work/leisure balance. To be a good teacher, one must have deep passion for exchanging ideas at intellectual level. He or she must enjoy working with students enthusiastically and be ready to work hard. Creativity, patience, tact and a sense of humour also help to become a popular teacher among students. Good teachers always guide students how to explore and learn from the vast knowledge and let them free from the boundaries of classroom.
To start a career as a lecturer/ Assistant Professor in a college/ university/ prestigious institute, one must need Master’s Degree with National Eligibility Test (NET). For teaching in college or university, one can earn at least Rs. 40,000 and above depending on education, experience and city. Indian market is always in need of competent teachers. With the emergence of private/ deemed universities and Global Institutes, the demand for lecturers and professors is on an all time high.

What is NET examination?
In order to determine eligibility for lectureship and to award Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and to ensure minimum standards for the entrants in the teaching profession and research, National Eligibility Test (NET) is conducted in Humanities (including languages), Social Sciences, Forensic Science, Environmental Sciences, Computer Science and Electronic Science. This time Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on behalf of UGC is holding the National Eligibility Test (NET). This is conducted twice in a year in the months of June and December. Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) is for candidates who desire to pursue research. The JRFs are awarded to the meritorious candidates from among the candidates’ qualifying for eligibility for lectureship in the NET. JRFs are restricted to only those candidates who opt for it in their application.

Age criteria:
  • Junior Research Fellowship: Not more than 28 years as on 1 December
  • Assistant Professor: No upper age limit for Assistant Professor
Educational qualification:

Candidates who have secured at least 55 percent marks in their Masters degree Candidates who have appeared or will be appearing for the Masters degree final year examination

 For the June exam, notification will be announced in the month of March and for the December exam, it will be in the month of September

Career options once you clear CBSE  NET

Once you clear UGC NET, you become eligible to become a lecturer or pursue Junior Research Fellowship in distinguished universities. The vacancies are announced from time to time and you have to apply for the same.

Lecturer

Once you clear NET, you can apply for the post of a lecturer as and when the vacancies are announced by the colleges and universities. While clearing NET is a must have criteria in many colleges and universities, the final appointment will depend on how well you fare in the interview conducted by the concerned university.

Junior Research Fellowship


Junior Research Fellowship is for those who have their heart set on research. You become eligible for the Junior Research Fellowship if you have applied for it in your application form and you have subsequently cleared NET. Once you get selected, then you can pursue research in any prestigious university and get the tuition fees reimbursed. In some universities, the students even get direct admission into MPhil programmes.

The test consists of three papers and all the three papers are objective in nature.

Paper I
This paper will assess the candidates reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness. There will be 60 questions, each of two marks. The candidates have to answer 50 questions only.
For passing NET examination, you must require 40% marks in Paper I that is at least 20 questions in this paper should be correct. If you belong to OBC (Non creamy layer)/ PWD/SC/ST class than you need 35% to pass this paper I.

Paper - II

This test will be based on the subject chosen by the candidate. There will 50 questions of two marks each. All the questions are compulsory.
You must require 40% marks in Paper II that is at least 20 questions in this paper should be correct. If you belong to OBC (Non creamy layer)/ WD/SC/ST class than you need 35% to pass this paper II.
Paper - III

This will consist of 150 marks and will have questions from the subject the candidate has chosen. There will 75 objective-type questions of two marks each.
you must require 50% marks in Paper III that is at least 38 questions in this paper should be correct. If you belong to OBC (Non creamy layer)/ PWD/SC/ST class than you need 40% to pass this paper III.
